“The Smart Commute™” – is a ‘Cycle2Work’ (C2W) Project – an independent effort which was introduced to the city of Mumbai since the last 2 years by Mr. Piyush and Ms. Firoza. They have undertaken many projects under the aegis of this concept.
C2W has so far organized the first-of-its-kind ‘Cycle-to-Work Flash Mob’ in India on the 19th of May, 2012, outside Bandra Railway Station, Mumbai. This effort happened to be the first of its kind organized in the country. A unique concept, by any standard, this event was executed entirely by enthusiastic cyclists and its success was evident from the amount of appreciation of the crowd. The event went on to earn a place in the ‘Limca Book of Records’.
This encouraged them to organize a special cycle rally from Bandra Kurla Complex to Bandra Carter Road, about 5 kms, the following year, ie. on 18th Community of Mumbai who were invited to join urban cyclists to promote the initiative. This event was conducted in peak evening traffic to seek the attention of motorists & to ensure that the message –‘bicycles with proper safety gears could be used as an alternate mode of transport’ – was well understood.
